Just having a QR Code isn’t enough

•October 31, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Getting a QR Code is simple, there are many services that will provide one free.  The trick is to have an affective system in place that will allow you to fulfill your goal.

QR codes can be used to:

  1. Send a user to a website
  2. LIKE a page
  3. Send a Text Message
  4. Order a pizza
  5. Receive a coupon
  6. Track a service request
  7. Check out at a register
  8. the list goes on…

But for a QR Based marketing system to work a couple of things MUST fall into place.  First the user needs to know what a QR Code is and how to us it. Currently only the really technically savvy are familiar with the QR Code technology.  Second, the user needs a cell phone that has an internet connection and a smartphone with an application the is capable of scanning and interacting with the QR Code.

The business that is utilizing the QR Code must have a marketing strategy that is clearly defined.  What does he what the QR Code to do?  Does he want to increase sales by offering a coupon?  Is he using the QR Code to help produce top of mind marketing, or branding for his business?  Once he has defined his use of the QR Code, does he have an affective communication channel set up, last but not least he needs to be able to track the request and collect data.  This data will be used to answer an important question. “Is this marketing campaign meeting it’s goals?”

OMG! It shares with their BFF

Joe had learned about a new service that utilized text message marketing. It uses bar codes and social media web sites such as Facebook and Twitter to help increase sales.

Andy was willing to try ANTYTHING at the moment. After contacting Sean Schroeder at QRBiz, they put together a promotion consisting of a special keyword for his customers to TEXT. Within the system 2 specials were entered. One for lunch and one for dinner. These offers weren’t your ordinary pizza offers of “FREE BREAD STICKS” , these were special offers of GREAT VALUE. Andy knew the offer had to be fantastic to get the phones to ring, but he wanted something more than that. He wanted these potential customers to tell their friends.

With his keyword and promotion set up, he and his manager went to Facebook and Twitter telling everyone about a GREAT DEAL. All they needed to was text ‘PIZZA’ to a special phone number to receive the offer! But knowing their customer base was between 20 and 45 years of age, they took yet another step.

Shortly afterwards, Andy’s phone began to ring and his employees had product to prepare and deliver. At the end of the night, Andy and his manager Joe, realized that many people had “liked” their business page, telling all their friends about the pizzeria!

In the days to come they added a QR Code, a bar code that most smartphones can easily scan. Once this bar code was scanned the user is sent to a coupon page revealing the special offer. Andy and Joe placed these bar codes on various web sites, blogs, facebook. They also placed them on a specially designed flyer.

He instructed his drivers to come in a couple of hours early each day. Each driver armed with flyers, strategically distributed them throughout their service area. Andy instructed Joe, his manager, to continually “brag” about their special offer only available using the special KEYWORD.

Within a week they had over 1,000 people liking their business page. Their new friends had begun commenting on their exceptional product and friendly drivers. As a result their sales had increased.

How would you utilize such a system like the one Andy utilized?   Let us know call our office Monday – Friday between 9am and 5pm.  Or send us an email at info@qrbiz.net

+ Send or receive text messages 72% in 2010 up from 65% in 2009

Since the major cell phone carriers have all introduced 3g networks, and cell phones have advanced to smart phones, the consumer now has true mobile internet access at their finger tips.  The cell phone is simply an advancement of the PC revolution – the next natural step in the evolution.

Owners of smart phones are more likely to be accessing web based information throughout the day, sending and receiving emails, keeping up with their network using Facebook and Twitter.  The fact is that the phone will be used more for these tasks than for making or receiving calls.

Over 90% of all text messages that are received are read – other media are happy with a much lower percentage!  Consider the fact that almost every cell phone plan sold now includes a text message package and smart phones require a 3g or better internet connections. Your consumers are mobile, they want information quickly and your marketing needs to be able to keep up with your customers.

QR codes and key word text messaging addresses these consumer trends.  In the near future QR Codes will be seen everywhere and they will deliver everything from online video, FourSquare Check ins, Facebook “LIKE” us links.  These systems will also provide the advertiser with marketing information and vital statistics to help guide future marketing endeavors.

Text Message marketing & the QR Code

•October 25, 2010 • Leave a Comment

It is a new world since the introduction of the 3G networks and the evolution of the Smartphone.   3G provided cell phone users with mobile access to high-speed internet connections and the Smartphone is providing those same users with the equivalent of mini computers that fit in the palm of their hands.  We are becoming a society that is tethered by technology, that wants information now, rather than later.  This is ever evident in our societies love of Facebook, twitter, and text messaging.

QrCodes ( short for Quick Response Codes) are 2 dimensional bar codes that most modern smartphones can easily “scan” or read, once the phone has scanned the QR Code it user can then interact with the information.
